This page explains how to use subject headings to generate better search results.

What are Subject Headings?

Subject headings are your best friend!

Once you've found an article that looks relevant, click on it.  If you scroll down, you should find subject headings listed.  They're like keywords, but they've been chosen specifically by librarians and professionals to accurately describe the articles.

If you click on a subject heading, you'll generate a new list of results including only articles with that subject heading.  Subject headings can bail you out if you've used the wrong search terms, and they can give you insight into what terminology is used in your field

Controlled Vocabulary

Subject headings are a type of controlled vocabulary.  This means that all articles on a particular subject will be classified with only one term.
